Silicone rubber is an elastic body with a network structure formed by vulcanization, based on linear polyorganosiloxane as the basic polymer, adding crosslinking agents, reinforcing fillers, and other coordination agents. It has excellent resistance to high and low temperatures, weather, ozone, arc, electrical insulation, high breathability, and physiological inertness, and is widely used in many fields such as architecture, automobiles, electronics, power, medical, aviation, and so on. Silicone rubber can be divided into two categories according to its commercial form: blended silicone rubber and liquid silicone rubber.
Blended silicone rubber is a product made by forming and vulcanizing a high degree of polymerization linear polyorganosiloxane with reinforcing fillers, additives, and vulcanizing agents. Due to the same process as ordinary organic rubber, such as roller plasticization, vulcanization agent, and lamination, it is called blended silicone rubber. Liquid silicone rubber is a polymer based on linear polyorganosiloxanes with moderate degree of polymerization. It does not require the use of complex mixing and molding equipment. It can be vulcanized into an elastomer at room temperature or slightly heated by contact with moisture or mixing with crosslinking agents. Liquid silicone rubber can be further divided into two types of systems based on its crosslinking and vulcanization mechanism: condensation type and addition type.
